Peter Halley exhibition in Spain
Madrid will host an exhibition by a unique artist who began as a radical independent artist and continues to work without the support of a mega-gallery, collaborating with gallerists in each country.

The Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza will host a monographic exhibition centred on a modern classic: the artist Peter Halley. It will be a unique event, as it is the first retrospective since the 1992 exhibition at the Museo Reina Sofía. The exhibition, which will span from 1985 to 2024, will show the artist’s complete career.
Peter Halley emerged on the art scene around 1980 and represented an innovation in the tradition of 20th-century abstract geometric art. Halley redefined geometry as a means of restriction and social control endowed with dystopian features. Taking a humorous approach to the established order, he transforms the square into his icons of prisons, cells and channels. The artist also anticipates the society of the digital age, marked by total interconnectedness.
The exhibition will feature 20 paintings from Spanish collections and will be accompanied by a catalogue including an essay by Enrique Juncosa and an interview with the artist.
