About this event
The Casa de América-ABANCA gallery opens the exhibition «The Wandering Body. Spanish Exile 1939-1975», which transports visitors into the world of Spanish emigrants’ memories. The Torres García and Frida Kahlo rooms are filled with letters, photographs and personal objects that reveal life, love and bonds maintained far from the homeland.
The exhibition is organised into six thematic spaces: a corridor with more than 1,500 letters hanging up, a souvenir shop with audiovisual material on exile, small cupboards containing photographs and letters kept in secret, and a sound space with the voices of women who preserve collective memory.
The ending is a symbolic attic, where objects brought from Spain coexist with those acquired in the new place, reflecting personal stories and the construction of identity far from the homeland.
