The photographic archive of the Banco de España: from albumen to pixel

An exhibition has opened in Madrid with more than 300 images showing the evolution of customs, people and architectural changes. The Banco de España has kept all these secrets. It now organises the exhibition «El Archivo fotográfico del Banco de España: de la albúmina al píxel», where it will present a selection of unique documents and photographs. The exhibition is divided into five sections: «El tiempo amarillo» (19th century), «La fotografía como documento» (1900-1925), «De la Edad de Plata a la Transición» (1925-1975), «España la otra» (1975-2023) and «Hacia la inteligencia artificial» (21st century).

Visitors will be able to discover the meaning of portraiture as an identifying element, space and activity of the institution. There they will be able to admire photographs showing the inauguration of the Banco de España, Plaza Cibeles as an emblem of the capital and the destruction caused by the Guerra Civil.
