Exhibition «CNIO Arte 2024. Dora García, End (dos prólogos)»

Pavilion 31 at the Thyssen will host an exhibition by the artist Dora García that addresses the problems of climate change and its consequences. It is a new audiovisual work by Dora García. The idea arose during her trip to the Svalbard archipelago in the Arctic with macroecologist David Nogues-Bravo.

Every year, the CNIO chooses an area of science significant to humanity and works with internationally renowned scientists so that they can enter into dialogue with the artist. This year’s subject was the Arctic, a place with grand landscapes that is home to countless species of organisms. It is a place that connects us with our origins and promotes unity. However, science indicates that Arctic ice is disappearing at a dizzying speed and that the area is threatened by human impact.

End (dos prólogos) is a work by Dora García made with commonly used media: film and writing. All of this is so that we, the viewers, remain critical and sensitive in the face of the abyss of time created by such distant sound and visual realities.

At the heart of this important exhibition are science and the arts, essential elements of creativity for understanding and reflecting our world. The common principle of these disciplines is that both scientists and artists face the unknown, the darkness, and bring light there.
