Día de Muertos at Casa de México

Casa de México will soon present its new altar in honour of Día de Muertos. It will be a new space, a bridge connecting the worlds of the living and the dead. This year, for the first time, it will appeal to the senses.

Legend has it that on 1 November, the inhabitants of the world of the dead leave Mictlán to reunite with their living loved ones. In honour of this, Casa de México will have an altar full of flowers, candles, photographs and skulls.

This tradition transports us to distant Mexico and its colourful Aztec-style cult of death. This year's altar has been created by artist Eugenio Caballero, internationally known for his work on famous films such as Pan's Labyrinth and Roma. This year he has opted for the senses: aromas and sounds that transport us to limbo.
