Exhibition “Chema Madoz”
In Chema Madoz’s new works, everyday objects lose their usual function and become visual riddles. This is precisely the focus of his new exhibition in Madrid.

From 5 May to 10 July, Galería Elvira González hosts Chema Madoz’s fifth solo exhibition at this space. The exhibition includes works from 2024–2025, and the project forms part of the PHotoESPAÑA 2026 festival programme.
Madoz continues to work with everyday objects, but arranges them so that their meaning shifts. In his black-and-white photographs, things cease to be recognisable in the usual sense and begin to exist as open combinations that are interpreted anew each time.
The photographer describes his approach through observation and intuition: for him, it is important not to translate words into images literally, but to capture the moment when everyday things give rise to a sense of unexpected meaning or discovery.
Chema Madoz (José María Rodríguez Madoz) was born in Madrid in 1958. Over decades of work, he has developed a recognisable style based on minimalism, black-and-white photography and a subtle play with the perception of objects.
