Exhibition ‘Cayetana. Grandee of Spain’

This autumn, the Liria Palace will open an exhibition dedicated to Cayetana Fitz-James Stuart, 18th Duchess of Alba, one of the most prominent figures of the 20th-century Spanish aristocracy. The exhibition ‘Cayetana. Grandee of Spain’ will run from 30 September to 31 January 2027 and will address not only her role in the history of the House of Alba, but also the more personal side of her life.

More than 200 pieces from the family legacy will be displayed in the palace rooms: works of art, photographs, letters, personal objects and haute couture garments. Through thematic sections, the exhibition will trace the duchess’s life from childhood to maturity, when she became one of the key figures in Spanish cultural life.

Special attention will be paid to her work as a collector and patron, her support for artists and opera, and the preservation of the historic heritage of the House of Alba. Visitors will also be able to discover lesser-known aspects of her biography: her charitable projects, her advocacy for animals and her passion for painting.

A special section of the exhibition will be dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the completion of the restoration of the Liria Palace after the damage suffered during the Civil War. The exhibition will highlight the role played by Cayetana and her husband, Duke Luis, in preserving the palace and its art collection.
