Exhibition “Carmen Martín Gaite. A paradigm of a woman of letters”

From 18 December to 14 June, the Biblioteca Nacional will host an exhibition devoted to one of the most important writers of 20th-century Spain. The exhibition will showcase her varied legacy: novels, short stories, essays, translations and historical research, as well as personal notebooks, letters, photographs and first editions.

Visitors will be able to discover how the writer combined her literary mastery with observation of society, explored the role of women and developed a unique style that brought together the personal and the universal. From her childhood in Salamanca to her mature works, from her participation in Madrid's literary circles to her international recognition, the exhibition tells the story of Gaite's life, work and cultural influence through her texts and personal objects.
