Exhibition “Beauties of the Floating World”

From 12 February to 31 May, the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando presents 77 works by masters from the late 18th and first half of the 19th centuries from the Pasamar-Onila collection. At the heart of the exhibition are bijin-ga, exquisite depictions of women brought to life through ōban-format prints, rare hashira-e, triptychs and a unique six-sheet polyptych.

Special attention is paid to the works of Suzuki Harunobu, an innovator of nishiki-e who ushered in the era of polychrome printing. The exhibition, prepared by the Museo Nacional del Grabado in collaboration with the Academy and Madrid City Council, with the support of the Diputación Provincial de Zaragoza, invites visitors to immerse themselves in the refined world of Japanese aesthetics and mastery from the “golden age”.
