“Aqua Mater” Exhibition

This autumn, Madrid will host one of Sebastião Salgado’s major posthumous exhibitions. “Aqua Mater” will bring together almost one hundred large-format photographs travelling through some of the planet’s most impressive landscapes and exploring water as the origin of life.

The exhibition, organised by La Fábrica in collaboration with Fundación Canal, will open at the end of October in Sala Castellana 214. The journey brings together images taken by the Brazilian photographer during more than 25 years of travel through places such as Antarctica, the Amazon, Patagonia, Iceland, Canada and the Himalayas.

Through oceans, glaciers, rivers and mists, Salgado shows the different forms of water and its capacity to transform territories. The exhibition also incorporates, for the first time, a selection of photographs from the “Glaciers” series.

Curated by Lélia Wanick Salgado, “Aqua Mater” offers an unhurried, contemplative experience that goes beyond photography: a journey through some of Earth’s most extreme landscapes and a reflection on the relationship between nature and human beings.
