Exhibition «In the Italian Manner. Spain and Mediterranean Gothic»
The Museo del Prado opens an exhibition in which Italy and Spain of the Late Middle Ages meet in the same space through more than one hundred works made in a variety of techniques.

From 26 May to 20 September, the Museo del Prado will host an exhibition on the artistic links between Italy and the Iberian Peninsula at the end of the Middle Ages. The focus is on the Trecento period, which had a notable influence on the development of Gothic art in Spain.
The exhibition brings together more than one hundred works in different techniques. These include painting, sculpture, jewellery, manuscripts, drawings, embroidery and silk fabrics. Some of the works are shown for the first time or are virtually unknown to the public.
The artists include the Italian masters Ambrogio Lorenzetti, Gherardo Starnina and Lupo di Francesco. Alongside them, works by local artists such as Ferrer y Arnau Bassa, the Serra brothers, Pedro de Córdoba and Miquel Alcanyís are exhibited.
The works come from 31 museums in Spain and 25 foreign institutions. The exhibition curator is Joan Molina Figueras, head of the Prado’s collection of European painting before 1500.
The exhibition shows how artistic ideas, techniques and themes circulated between Italy and Spain. Through trade and diplomatic contacts, a shared visual language emerged in which the different traditions of the Late Middle Ages intertwined.
