A unique exhibition is coming to Madrid that will highlight and redefine the role of women in art.
About this event
«31 women» is a unique selection from the collection of one of the most important patrons of the 20th century. Today it has even greater significance, as it shows women’s contribution in terms of solidarity and friendship.
In 1943, the famous collector Peggy Guggenheim organised one of the first exhibitions in the United States to include works exclusively by women. At the time, Guggenheim’s aim was to bring a feminine side to the process.
The exhibition presented works by female Surrealist and abstract artists. The women used these languages to maintain their independence and highlight the patriarchal assumptions that lay at the origin of these movements.
We will now be able to see a new interpretation of this exhibition, which will include all the artists who took part in the first show. In this way, the Foundation aims to help value women artists not according to their relationship with male artists, but to underline their individual significance.
