What do Salvador Dalí, Remedios Varo and André Breton have in common? They are all representatives of surrealism, a movement that changed art forever. The exhibition, held to mark the centenary of the First Surrealist Manifesto, invites you to immerse yourself in its influence in Spain and Latin America.
About this event
Fundación Mapfre shows you the world of surrealism, where logic gives way to dreams and fantasies. From 6 February to 11 May 2025, Sala Recoletos will host an exhibition celebrating the centenary of this manifesto. The exhibition will explore how the text that revolutionised the art world in 1924 influenced art in Spain and Latin America.
The exhibition includes works by world-famous masters, such as Salvador Dalí, Luis Buñuel and Óscar Domínguez, as well as lesser-known authors whose work remained in the shadows, such as Nicolás de Lecuona, Amparo Segarra and José Alemany. An important role in the exhibition is played by the contributions of women surrealists, such as Remedios Varo, Leonora Carrington and Dora Maar, whose works challenge conventional notions of reality.
This exhibition is part of a global project that redefines surrealism in five countries and shows that the art of dreams and the absurd has no borders and always finds new forms of expression.
