Cervantes Train

Miguel de Cervantes is one of Spain’s most recognised and timeless authors, born in Alcalá de Henares in 1547. Today, this city has been declared a World Heritage Site. To commemorate the genius of writing, the Cervantes Train travels from Atocha station to the writer’s birthplace. It is a great opportunity to recall his masterpiece, Don Quixote.

During the journey, scenes from the work are performed. On it, actors dressed in Golden Age costumes bring Sancho Panza, Don Quixote and even Miguel de Cervantes himself to life.

The journey’s programme is divided into several parts. First, travellers will be welcomed by the characters. Once on board, the performances will begin, serving as an introduction to the world of Cervantes. In Alcalá de Henares, a tour of the historic centre will begin. The route, led by specialist guides, passes along Paseo de la Estación, Vía Libreros, Plaza Cervantes, Vía Mayor, Plaza Bernardas, the Regional Archaeological Museum and Casa de la Entrevista. Other places of interest attract visitors with their stories and anecdotes. For example, they will discover how Libreros Street got its name, how San Diego Square saw Quevedo urinate, how Sancho and the cook created an olla podrida, or how amusing it is to be a courtier.

Due to infrastructure improvement works, on 2 and 9 May the departure will take place from Chamartín station.
