“Alcázar of Toledo and Army Museum” guided tour

The Alcázar of Toledo reveals its interior, where fortress, palace and museum come together in a single space and can be read as different chapters of the same story.

The tour crosses the rooms of a building that took its current form in the 16th century, but stands on older constructions. At the entrance, traces of the past can be seen: a two-thousand-year-old cistern, fragments of Arab fortifications and remains of a 14th-century tower. These details show a sequence of the eras the building has passed through.

Today it houses Spain's National Army Museum. Its rooms contain objects from the military history of different periods: armour, weapons, uniforms and pieces related to prominent figures in Spanish history.

The visit ends in the north inner courtyard, from which there are views of the Alcázar façade and the landscape surrounding Toledo.
