Advent wreath workshop

The tradition of the Advent wreath originated in northern Germany in the 19th century. It was started by the Protestant theologian Johann Hinrich Wichern, who ran an orphanage in Hamburg. To brighten the wait for Christmas, he proposed the idea of lighting four large candles on the Sundays of Advent and smaller ones for each day of the week.

In the workshop, children will be able to create and decorate their own Advent wreath. During the process, they will learn about the symbolism of the candles lit each Sunday and discover the rich history of this tradition. Materials such as pine branches, pine cones, leaves and wool will provide participants with a vivid sensory experience through their textures, smells and shapes.
