Verdi created «Rigoletto» in the middle of his career, together with «Il trovatore» and «La traviata», forming a trilogy rightly regarded as the standard of classical opera. The premiere took place in Venice in 1851 and immediately won the hearts of the public. Audiences particularly remembered the aria «La donna è mobile», which could be heard in the city’s streets the following day.
