On 22 and 23 October, Centro Danza Matadero will host the premiere of Pasaje, the new performance by Juan Carlos Avecilla. The staging offers the audience a sensory journey through sound, from the first cry at birth to the final sigh.
The work is based on an acoustic universe created by the voices of two singers, Naike Ponce and Desiré Paredes, and traditional percussionist Iván Mellén. The voices whistle, demand, sing and vibrate, transforming everyday noises and the sounds of nature into living art. The music and performance are based on minimalism: no adornments, only pure sound, movement and emotions.
What is distinctive about Pasaje is the union of the personal and the universal. The sounds of water recall the maternal womb, accompanying the audience in the sensation of life being born, while the sharp blows of percussion symbolise liberation and the energy of nature. The show explores the primitive aspects of human existence, provoking an emotional response not only in the ear, but throughout the body.
