Cabaret, the Musical

The second season of «Cabaret El Musical» begins at Espacio Delicias. After the success of the first season, the show returns in an even more immersive format: the actors appear directly among the audience, live music plays and the stage merges with the theatre space, blurring the boundary between the audience and the story.

The main addition to the cast is Mario Vaquerizo, who, together with Víctor Palmero, will play the role of the master of ceremonies, the guide who leads the audience through the world of cabaret.

The plot unfolds in Berlin in the 1930s, as Nazism makes its way towards power. The singer Sally Bowles lives from night to night on the stage of the Kit Kat Klub, while outside the venue’s walls the political threat grows. Her story intertwines with the relationship of Cliff Bradshaw and the romance between Mrs Schneider and Mr Schultz, and the club itself becomes a temporary refuge from what is happening on the city’s streets.

The musical, premiered on Broadway in 1966 and brought to the screen in 1972 with Liza Minnelli in the leading role, has long been a theatre classic. The Madrid production retains the dramatic foundation of the story by Kander, Ebb and Masteroff, but adds the energy of a live club, turning the auditorium into the very setting of the action.
