The Jury Experience ‘Death on the Port Side’

In Madrid, a case reopens in which the audience does not merely observe, but makes a decision. The Jury Experience returns with the story ‘Death on the Port Side’ and turns the theatre into a trial, where the outcome depends on everyone present.

On stage, a nighttime motorboat journey ends in tragedy. A group of friends finds itself at the centre of events, where one person dies, another falls into a coma and a third becomes the accused. The version of what happened changes constantly as new testimony emerges.

Spectators have access to the case materials, listen to the witnesses, compare details and gradually form their own picture of what happened. At some point, the boundary between the play and a real trial almost disappears, because each person must make the decision.

The performance takes place in the ICOMEM building in Madrid and lasts approximately one hour. Here there is no usual distance between stage and auditorium, and the role of jurors forms part of the experience from the beginning through to the final vote.
