From 9 to 20 April, the stage of the Teatros del Canal will come alive with the story of the distinguished cellist Pau Casals. In ‘Music for Hitler’, based on a true story, Carlos Hipólito embodies a musician who not only changed the world of classical music but became a symbol of resistance.
After the Civil War, Casals found himself exiled in southern France where, despite his own hardships, he rescued compatriots from grim refugee camps. But his most difficult decision was still to come: in 1943, the Nazis offered him the opportunity to play before Hitler. He knew that refusing could cost him his freedom and possibly his life.
This powerful drama transports the audience to the key moments in Casals’ destiny, revealing how art can inspire and confront evil.
