The plot centres on the final day in the life of Max Estrella, a blind, beggar poet who wanders through nocturnal Madrid with his companion Latino de Hispalis.

Their path takes them through dives, streets and the offices of power, where images of corruption, social injustice, poverty and moral decay arise one after another. This nocturnal journey becomes not merely a walk, but a painful portrait of the era, in which the protagonist’s personal tragedy merges with the crisis of an entire society.

Vasco’s staging preserves the sharpness of the original text and turns the classic work into a living, current statement about a world in which illusions inevitably crash against reality.
