“La Traviata” zarzuela

Teatro La Latina will host a performance of “La Traviata”, the story of Violetta Valéry, a famous 19th-century Parisian courtesan whom society admires and rejects at the same time.

Violetta meets Alfredo and discovers for the first time what true love is: he offers her the hope of a different life. But the conventions of the time and Alfredo’s father’s plea force her to silently renounce her own happiness for the sake of another’s honour. Unaware of the true reason for her departure, Alfredo humiliates Violetta and only later discovers the sacrifice she has made.

He returns to her, but it is already too late: consumed by illness, Violetta dies in his arms, leaving behind the memory of a love that proved stronger than tragedy.
