Until 12 April, the theatre hosts «Jugar con fuego», one of those stories in which everything begins as a game and ends in a choice with no turning back. Marina Bollaín sets the action in a football stadium and shifts the focus to what happens in the boxes and corridors, far from centre stage.
In its day, this zarzuela by Francisco Asenjo Barbieri became one of the most performed in Spain and set the course for an entire genre. Today it returns with a new rhythm, retaining its musical foundation but changing the perspective.
The story is built on what remains unsaid, chance coincidences and feelings that transcend the rules. In the stadium’s boxes and corridors, different worlds confront each other: one restrained and privileged, the other noisy and vibrant. In this setting, love ceases to be a private story and becomes more fragile than it appears at first glance.
