“Juana de Arco” show

Communion with a deity had a profound influence on Juana de Arco. At the age of seventeen, she travelled to the court of the Dauphin Carlos VII so that the heir would entrust her with leading the army. Guided by the will of God, the young woman succeeded in lifting the English siege of the city of Orleans and became a leader for the soldiers. However, the road to glory ended in a trial for heresy.

The story of this young woman has become part myth and part reality. But for six centuries it has fuelled the imagination, inspiring cinema and theatre. And today, the story of a brave woman is as relevant as it was in the past.

Marta Pazos leads a cast of seven actresses which, in the words of Sergio Martínez Vilas, revives the figure of Juana de Arco as a defiant light and a “living flame of love” in an age of crushing darkness. The show is based on a language inspired by poetry and mystical visions. The stage action seeks to rewrite the myth by going beyond the official version.
