Houdini, a magical musical

Magic, music and the story of a man who made the impossible his profession. This autumn, Teatro Calderón will present for the first time in Spain a work about the life of the legendary Harry Houdini, the great master of escapes and illusions.

From 9 October to 1 December, audiences will be able to enjoy a work in which the stage becomes a space of wonders and memories. The leading roles are played by Pablo Puig and Julia Möller.

The plot takes us to 1926, to Houdini’s final performance, when the stage becomes a portal to his past: from the youth of the Hungarian emigrant Erik Weiss to his worldwide triumph. The production features more than 20 spectacular illusions. But behind the dazzling tricks lies the story of a man for whom risk and overcoming limits were the meaning of life.

The music for the work was composed by Giovanni Maria Lori, who combined the Broadway style with Hungarian motifs. The choreography is by Gillian Bruce and the stage magic is by Paolo Carta, known for Mary Poppins and El fantasma.
