“Hinotori, Las alas del Fénix” show by Yamato

From 16 to 27 June, Teatro Gran Vía will welcome the Japanese company Yamato with its new show Hinotori, Las alas del Fénix, a production in which taiko drums are not just music, but a way of telling a story through rhythm and movement.

The ensemble is made up of 40 performers, with performances in more than 50 countries behind them. Each Yamato concert is built as a single flow of energy, in which sound, physical expression and synchronisation become a complete theatrical experience.

The group was founded in 1993 in Japan's Nara prefecture. It is rooted in traditional taiko drums, which were once played at rituals, festivals and ceremonies. In Yamato's interpretation, this instrument transcends the boundaries of traditional performance and becomes part of contemporary theatre, where not only sound matters, but also the musicians' physical presence on stage.

Hinotori draws on the image of the phoenix as a story about the inner cycle: falling, recovering and rising anew. This theme is not expressed in words, but revealed through rhythm: from almost complete silence to powerful beats that can almost be felt physically.
