In June, Alcalá de Henares becomes for a few days a city where theatre crosses the boundaries of the stage and fills the streets, courtyards and historic buildings.
About this event
From 12 June to 5 July, Alcalá de Henares is once again filled with theatre. The festival Clásicos en Alcalá celebrates its twenty-fifth anniversary and brings together productions in the city that go beyond the stages and occupy courtyards, squares and historic buildings.
The programme features nearly sixty projects and more than twenty-five premieres. Artists from sixteen countries take part. Texts by Lope de Vega, Cervantes and Calderón coexist with contemporary works and are interpreted through present-day experience.
In addition to theatre performances, the programme includes music, dance, circus and street performances. Local companies play an important role, as the festival remains part of the life of the city.
