In the Sala Tirso de Molina of the Teatro de la Comedia, Ángel Ruiz presents a Baroque cabaret about the era of King Felipe IV.
About this event
At the centre is a jester, close to the monarch and at the same time an outside observer. Through his ironic gaze, the era of the Golden Age is revealed: the splendour of the stage, the secrets of the court and theatre as a refuge in a period of political decline.
The production combines 17th-century texts with music by Claudio Monteverdi, José Marín and Juan Hidalgo. Classical music sounds modern and the actor addresses the spectator directly, erasing the boundary between stage and auditorium.
The play recreates the atmosphere of an era in which culture was flourishing and the State was losing stability, and proposes viewing art as a reflection of power and human nature.
