«Corral Cervantes» performance series

The Fundación Siglo de Oro opens the new season of Corral Cervantes, which will run until 28 June at Nave de Terneras. Audiences will be able to enjoy five key works of the Spanish Golden Age: La dama boba, El perro del hortelano, Amor secreto hasta celos, Don Gil de las calzas verdes and La francesa Laura.

The season turns the venue into a festival of Baroque theatre: seventeenth-century texts intertwine with contemporary stage language, and the characters, from clever women to jesters and aristocrats, come to life on stage, making the past feel close and understandable.

The foundation, awarded the 2018 Gold Medal for Performing Arts, promotes and revives works from the Golden Age, including the production of El castigo sin venganza at the Shakespeare Globe Theatre and the creation of the Fiesta Corral Cervantes festival, with more than 140 performances.

A special place in the season is occupied by Don Gil de las calzas verdes, about female cleverness and power, and La francesa Laura, about courtly intrigues. La dama boba and Amor secreto hasta celos show passions and secrets, while El perro del hortelano delves into the world of seventeenth-century aristocratic intrigues.
