From 1 to 19 July, Teatro La Latina presents a musical about Cleopatra and Mark Antony, where personal history unfolds in a context of changes that can transform the course of the world. The production is part of the Festival de Mérida en Madrid 2026 programme and offers a closer, more intimate view of this story than usual.
The action is set in the final years of Ptolemaic Egypt, when Rome’s influence is becoming ever more palpable. In these circumstances, the protagonists’ feelings resonate strongly and decisions become increasingly difficult. Love gradually intertwines with the struggle for power and the fear of loss.
Cleopatra is presented here as a ruler capable of feeling and calculating at the same time. Mark Antony appears as a man divided between duty and the personal. Their story develops from attraction to tension and the inevitable outcome, retaining a sense of closeness and humanity.
