Teatro Real presents a new production of Georges Bizet's celebrated opera, directed by Damiano Michieletto, offering a more direct and raw perspective on passion, obsession and destructive love. The staging reinterprets the classic story and shifts the focus towards the characters' inner conflicts and the charged atmosphere in which desire, freedom and violence collide.
Some of the most outstanding voices in contemporary opera take part on stage, while Eun Sun Kim, music director of the San Francisco Opera, leads the theatre's orchestra.
Set in Seville, Carmen remains one of the most recognised operas in the repertoire and, in this version, sounds especially intense and contemporary, without losing the tragic force or emotional charge of the original.
