Production «1984»

From 3 March to 5 April, an adaptation of George Orwell’s famous novel can be seen in the Sala Jardiel Poncela at the Centro Cultural Fernán Gómez. Directors Carlos Martínez-Abarca and Javier Sánchez-Collado transpose the story into a space with a retrofuturist aesthetic: rusted metals, corrosion and damp create an atmosphere of pressure and constant surveillance.

The production tells the story of Winston Smith, an employee of the Ministry of Truth, who begins to question the system and secretly keeps a diary as an act of rebellion against the totalitarian regime. Together with Julia, his colleague and lover, he tries to find freedom in a world where every step and thought is controlled.

Four actors simultaneously embody the novel’s key characters, while live and multimedia stage devices intensify the feeling of alienation and tension. The staging invites audiences to enter an atmosphere of control, resistance and inner struggle, transforming Orwell’s classic story into a striking visual and emotional experience.
