International Architecture Week

Among this year’s new features are the opening of Palacio de Goyeneche, the Embassy of Italy and Air Force Headquarters, as well as a Pop Arq Store design market with products created by architects, jazz concerts performed by registered architects and children’s activities such as “La città infinita”, where the youngest visitors will design their own ideal city. Portugal will be the guest country and will pay tribute to the prestigious architect Álvaro Siza Vieira, a Pritzker Prize winner and international reference. Although he will not attend in person, he has collaborated with his studio on the exhibitions. For its part, Madrid will highlight the work of Luis Gutiérrez Soto, one of the most influential architects of the 20th century, with an urban exhibition in El Retiro Park commemorating the 125th anniversary of his birth and covering 14 of his most emblematic projects.

Organised by the Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos de Madrid, Fundación Arquitectura COAM and Madrid City Council, this event aims to bring architectural heritage closer to the public with proposals ranging from debates on housing to concerts and storytelling. Registration for the visits will open on Tuesday 23 September at 10:00 on the official website and from 9:00 in person at COAM headquarters on Calle Hortaleza. With more than 15,000 visitors at the last edition, International Architecture Week promises once again to be one of the major cultural events of Madrid’s autumn.
