Festival «3rd Golden Age Week»

Scenes from the Golden Age will come to life again in the Barrio de las Letras. From 20 to 26 April, this neighbourhood in central Madrid will become the setting for a free cultural programme dedicated to the time of Cervantes and literature of the 16th and 17th centuries.

The week is being held for the third time by the Centro district council, in collaboration with the Asociación de Comerciantes del Barrio de las Letras and with the participation of the Ateneo de Madrid, the Arturo Soria Conservatory, CaixaForum and the Casa de Castilla-La Mancha.

Lectures, performances, concerts, guided tours, dance performances and children’s workshops are planned at various points in the district. The urban space becomes a route in which every stop is connected with the culture of the period.

The opening will take place on 20 April with a walk from Plaza de Las Cortes and a lecture by historian Alfredo Alvar at the Ateneo de Madrid, devoted to Madrid in the time of Cervantes. From then on, the programme will unfold throughout the week: poetry recitals, baroque music, theatrical performances and routes through streets associated with Cervantes and Quevedo. The closing will take place on 26 April in Plaza de Santa Ana with the play «El acero de Madrid», performed by Memoriarte Rutas.
