«Opera Week 2026» festival

There is no need to enter a theatre to hear Verdi, Gounod or Tchaikovsky. For four nights, one of Madrid’s most central squares will replace traffic noise with great voices and orchestras, becoming an open-air cinema dedicated to opera and ballet.

From 9 to 12 July, Plaza de Isabel II will host a new edition of Opera Week, an event that every summer brings some of Teatro Real’s most outstanding productions to a giant screen with free admission. Each day will begin at 20:30, with emblematic titles and broadcasts that can be followed from the heart of the city.

The programme is completed by ticket draws for Teatro Real shows, exclusive behind-the-scenes visits and other activities. As a finishing touch, on 12 July the theatre will open its doors so that any visitor can freely explore this historic building.

9 July, 20:30 — Romeo y Julieta, by Charles Gounod.

10 July, 20:30 — live broadcast of Il trovatore, by Giuseppe Verdi, from Teatro Real.

11 July, 20:30 — The Bartered Bride, by Bedřich Smetana.

12 July, 20:30 — Swan Lake: the new generation, Matthew Bourne’s contemporary reinterpretation.
