On the night of 15 May, a procession with the images of San Isidro and Santa María de la Cabeza will travel through the streets of Madrid’s old quarter, returning to the city centre a route repeated year after year.
About this event
On 15 May, central Madrid will become the setting for one of the city’s most emblematic religious processions: the procession with the images of San Isidro and Santa María de la Cabeza.
The procession will depart from the Real Colegiata de San Isidro, on Calle de Toledo, and travel through the historic streets of the old quarter. The images of the saints will pass through the neighbourhoods linked to the city’s history and tradition, where, according to tradition, they lived.
The procession includes dozens of brotherhoods from Madrid and other regions of Spain, each with its banners and forming part of the main procession. For the city, it is an annual event in which religious tradition joins the bustle of the streets in the centre.
The route passes through Plaza de Segovia la Nueva, Puerta Cerrada, the streets of San Justo, Sacramento and Mayor, then through Plaza de la Villa and Plaza Mayor, and returns to the church of San Isidro.
The musical accompaniment will be provided by several groups, including the cornet and drum band of the brotherhood of Jesús «El Pobre», the La Lira de Pozuelo band and the Municipal Police band.
