4th Malasaña a Escena Festival

For ten days, Malasaña becomes the city’s theatre map. Until 26 April, the fourth edition of the Malasaña a Escena festival is held here, taking performances out of theatres and into streets, courtyards and public spaces.

The programme includes more than 50 performances. Professional companies appear alongside amateur groups, as well as workshops for different levels of experience. The festival brings together different forms of participation and makes theatre part of the neighbourhood’s everyday life.

Events are distributed across several venues, including Teatro Victoria, Teatro La Madrilera, Garaje del Actor and Escuela Superior de Canto de Madrid. The renovated hall at Instituto Lope de Vega and Colegio Cardenal Cisneros also take part.

Part of the programme is held outdoors. COAM, the courtyard of the convent of the Religiosas de María Inmaculada and the inner courtyard of Museo de Historia de Madrid are used.

One new feature will be the BLACK MARKET in Plaza de las Comendadoras, where ten simultaneous performances will take place.

The festival also extends into the neighbourhood’s urban surroundings, including local spaces and shops, where performances are integrated into normal urban traffic.
