The paquito route

This year, in addition to 22 restaurants, several municipal markets have joined the tastiest route. The diversity of its sandwich menu makes it a notable dish among fast food. While the typical sandwiches in Spain are the calamari sandwich and the classic beef pepito, the paquito is a worthy rival that has gained popularity in recent years.

The history of the route began in 2019, when INTEROVIC, the Organización Interprofesional de Carne de Ovino y Caprino de Carne, created the route to promote and develop this sandwich. Now the route is so popular that this year’s guide includes 100 restaurants across the country. In Madrid, the municipal markets and the Alcampo supermarket have even joined it.

Among the collaborators, Café Comercial and Barra Alta stand out. Each prepares its own version of the paquito, but the main requirement for carrying this name is that it must be made with Spanish lamb, suckling lamb or kid goat meat.
