‘La brecha de lo real’ film series

From 10 September to 8 October, the Pequeño Cine Estudio cinema will screen five films on Thursdays. After each session, the audience does not leave; instead, the auditorium becomes a space for dialogue. This is how the series ‘La brecha de lo real. Cinco ejercicios para disolverse’, devised by Isabel Erranz Vega, works: the screening is not the end of the evening, but its starting point.

The programme includes films united by the theme of unstable reality: Hitchcock’s ‘Vertigo’, with its deception of perception; Kurosawa’s ‘Rashomon’, on the plurality of truth; Buñuel’s ‘The Exterminating Angel’, with absurdity as a trap; Tarkovsky’s ‘Mirror’, on memory and time; and Bergman’s ‘Persona’, on the dissolution of personality.

Each screening is accompanied by a discussion with at least two guests: philosophers, writers, psychiatrists or critics. Participants include Herman Cano Cuenca, Javier Codusal, Antonio Duarte Calvo, Cervantes Prize winner Luis Mateo Díez, Marta Sans and Javier Trigales. Erranz Vega herself moderates the discussions, and the musical accompaniment is provided by pianist Paula Ortega Perojo.

The conversation after the film is not limited to what has been seen: participants address other books, paintings and films, and afterwards the discussion continues informally.
