L.E.V. Matadero Festival

From 17 to 20 September, Matadero Madrid will once again become one of Europe’s leading venues for digital art with the eighth edition of L.E.V. Matadero (Laboratorio de Electrónica Visual). The festival will bring together creators from different countries working at the intersection of electronic music, audiovisual installations, virtual reality, artificial intelligence and performance.

Since arriving in Madrid, L.E.V. has established itself as one of the essential events for discovering some of the most innovative projects in contemporary creation. Over four days, the venue will host concerts, audiovisual shows, immersive installations and extended-reality experiences that explore new ways of relating to sound, image and technology.

Neon Dance (United Kingdom) The British company will premiere Last and First Men in Spain, a stage adaptation of Jóhann Jóhannsson’s film that combines contemporary dance, analogue cinema and Tilda Swinton’s narration.

Schnitt + Aoi Yamaguchi (Italy / Japan) Experimental electronic music and Japanese calligraphy come together in Calligraton, a show in which sound, light and writing interact in real time.

Drew McDowall + Pedro Maia (Scotland / Portugal) The former Coil member presents an audiovisual concert with filmmaker Pedro Maia, fusing modular synthesis and experimental images.

Suso Saiz (Spain) One of the pioneers of Spanish experimental music will offer a free concert based on processed guitars and soundscapes.

Kyria Libia (Spain) The composer will premiere El arrobamiento, a proposal that blends pipe organ, lyrical voices and electronics inspired by sacred music.

Kelly Moran (United States) The New York pianist and producer will present her new work Don’t Trust Mirrors, in which prepared piano coexists with synthesizers.

Milian Mori (Switzerland) The audiovisual artist will bring a show of electronic music, stroboscopic visuals and digital art to Madrid, developed with the Raster Media label.

NAO (Japan) The Japanese creator will premiere THE CLUSTERs in Spain, a performance combining robotics, dance, sound and image in real time.

PUPPET.1024 Architecture × Vitalic (France) An interactive installation in which visitors create music by manipulating a digital character, developed with French producer Vitalic.

Riccardo Giovinetto (Italy) His immersive installation H U M I transforms satellite images and field recordings into algorithmically generated audiovisual landscapes.

Kate Voet & Victor Maes (Belgium / Netherlands) The virtual-reality experience A Long Goodbye, awarded at the Venice Biennale, addresses dementia through an intimate story about love and memory.

Carles Castaño (Spain) The digital artist presents [“Á”1653 “gora” 23035], a mixed-reality experience set on a planet Earth turned into ruins.

Barbara Mydlak & Yann Deval (France) The augmented-reality installation Chronica V1 proposes a collective journey through memory, illness and resilience.
