Spring in Madrid has taken on a new colour, intense yellow: the mountains are covered in broom flowers and the celebration begins that turns Los Molinos into a sunny, month-long festival.

Forget lavender and almond trees: the new symbol of spring in Madrid is yellow broom in bloom. In the town of Los Molinos, where there are more of these shrubs than anywhere else in the world, a whole festival is being organised: almost a month of concerts, walks, workshops and a celebration of colour.
The celebration culminates on 10 May with a bicycle ride, a tapas route and an open-air concert in Plaza España. This year, broom is not just a flower, but an excuse to come to the mountains and see spring in a new way.
