San Lorenzo Festival

After San Cayetano, August street festivals continue in Lavapiés with the San Lorenzo celebrations, a festival that combines Madrid roots with the multicultural character of one of the capital’s most diverse neighbourhoods.

From 9 to 12 August, the area around Plaza Arturo Barea and San Lorenzo church will become the setting for concerts, cultural activities, children’s proposals and neighbourhood gatherings. During these days, the neighbourhood’s streets will bring residents and visitors together around music and food.

The festival retains some classic elements of Madrid street festivals, such as traditional dances, decorated streets and the presence of chulapos and chulapas, but it also reflects Lavapiés’ current identity, where different cultures and ways of celebrating coexist.

The main day will be 10 August, dedicated to San Lorenzo, with the programme’s principal events.
