On 16 May, Madrid’s Plaza Mayor will be filled for a few hours with folk dances, with several groups from the city taking to the stage.
About this event
On 16 May, Madrid’s Plaza Mayor will become, for a few hours, a stage for folk dances from different neighbourhoods of the city, brought together in a single festive programme.
From 12:00 to 14:30, folk groups will perform here, presenting dances that have formed part of Madrid’s tradition for decades. Wearing costumes inspired by the Goya era and Castilian culture, the dancers will take to the stage accompanied by live music and fill the square.
The programme includes seguidillas, jotas, boleros, panaderos and other traditional forms, as well as scenes based on popular themes from old Madrid.
