In Madrid, they propose reinterpreting the traditional chulapa costume through the use of second-hand clothing.

RE-CHULOS is getting under way in Madrid, a project that proposes creating a new chulapa look from garments with a history. The initiative is part of the San Isidro programme and combines fashion, recycling and an urban context.
The project begins on 24 April at Serrería Belga with an open workshop led by Juan Duyos and Miguel Becer. Participants will learn to work with second-hand clothing, transform garments and explore new forms without literally reproducing the traditional costume. Admission is free and any interested person can take part.
The practical phase then begins. The first participants will receive a set of three garments with which they will have to work. The aim is to create a look in which Madrid tradition can be perceived through a contemporary perspective and its own language.
The final will take place on 16 May at the Las Vistillas site. The works will be presented there and the jury will select the best projects, with separate prizes for the reinterpretation of the chulapa costume and for upcycling work.
