Festival «Mazda House: workshops, music and Japanese culture»

In central Madrid, a space opens for one month where visitors can hear the sound of the koto, gather moss to create a kokedama and see how cracks in ceramics become part of a new object.

About this event

Mazda House opens in Madrid, a temporary space dedicated to Japanese culture and its everyday practices.

From 1 to 24 May, the Fundación Ortega Marañón hosts a programme in which crafts, music and dialogue about Japan come together in one place. Here, visitors can not only learn about traditions, but also experience them through action and participation.

The workshops work with different materials and techniques. Participants create kokedama with plants and moss, fold paper in origami and restore ceramics using the kintsugi technique, in which cracks become part of the new object. The talks cover the Japanese way of life, the concept of ikigai, practices such as shiatsu and the subject of longevity.

The musical programme revolves around the sound of the koto, a traditional Japanese instrument with a soft, calm timbre. A separate space is occupied by an immersive installation with the effect of a forest setting, where sound and light create a sense of immersion.

The programme also includes meetings dedicated to Mazda design and the new CX-6e model.
