«The Music of Astor Piazzolla» Concert by ASTOR Quintet

In 2026, the ASTOR Quintet returns to the stage of Café Berlín with a series of concerts dedicated to the music of Astor Piazzolla. The group continues to do what its listeners appreciate so much: carefully and thoughtfully reinterpret the composer's legacy, preserving its spirit and energy.

Piazzolla's music long ago transcended the boundaries of time and genres. It is a living cultural reference point: chamber-like in form, passionate in essence, imbued with the rhythm of the city and subtle emotional drama. In this music, the rigour of composition surprisingly coexists with freedom and sensuality.

While Astor Piazzolla's tangos are playing in Madrid, the silence of the audience filling the venue is total. It is as if we were all holding our breath so as not to add any sound to the magical, subtle and also forceful music of the Argentine author performed by “Astor Quintet”, a permanent group devoted to paying tribute to Piazzolla in each of its performances. After having listened to their records hundreds of times, seeing this performance is like listening to the original, which is no small thing.

The ASTOR quintet, which has worked with this repertoire since 2018, brings together musicians with great experience and a deep knowledge of the style. The programme is based on the original arrangements created by Piazzolla for his own quintet, with which he went through his entire creative career and composed such emblematic works as Adiós Nonino, The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires and Libertango.

In ASTOR's performances, the music sounds precise and alive at the same time. It is a way of hearing Piazzolla as a living voice, in which Buenos Aires still breathes.
