Madrid 2 May Festivities

The programme for the 2 May festivities has been presented in Madrid. From 30 April to 3 May, the city hosts concerts, street events and major historical re-enactments at different venues.

The celebration is connected with the uprising of 1808, when the people of Madrid rebelled against the French troops. During these days, the city recreates the events of that period once again. Major re-enactments take place in the centre, with actors in period costume, cavalry and military scenes. The route passes through key points in the city and attracts a large number of spectators.

At the same time, stages are opened for concerts and folk performances. The programme includes performances by contemporary artists, zarzuela and traditional music. At night, some of the events move to parks and outdoor spaces. One of the highlights will be the night-time drone show, in which light compositions connected with the history and symbols of the city will appear in the sky.
