The anniversary of Felipe VI’s reign
Madrid will celebrate the tenth anniversary of Felipe VI’s reign on a royal scale.
About this event
On 19 June, it will be ten years since Felipe VI’s proclamation. In honour of the date, festivities will be held that will turn the day into a great celebration.
The festivities will begin in the morning with a troop parade along Calle Mayor: units from the three armed services and the Guardia Civil.
The ceremonial changing of the Royal Guard will then begin, watched from the balconies of the Royal Palace by Their Royal Highnesses the Princess of Asturias and Infanta Doña Sofía. As tradition dictates, before the change itself, there will be a carousel by the Royal Escort Squadron, the Royal Percussion.
Another solemn event will be held for the capital’s residents: the Royal Guard Orchestra will give a concert in Plaza de Oriente, with the participation of violinist Ara Malikyan from the palace balcony.
Patrimonio Nacional will also join the festivities and open its doors to the public. Admission to the Gallery of Royal Collections, the royal palaces and the monasteries will be free.
A technological novelty will be the broadcast of images for 23 hours on the façade of the Royal Palace.
