Almond blossom at Quinta de los Molinos

Nearly three thousand almond trees in bloom have begun to flower at Quinta de los Molinos, once again turning eastern Madrid into a space of white and pink light. The park, located in the San Blas-Cañillitas neighbourhood, fills with people who come to walk under the flowering canopies and enjoy the delicate sweet scent that, for the first time, truly recalls spring.

This year, flowering has been delayed by the cold and may be shorter than usual. Experts point out that, on some trees, buds open at the same time as the leaves appear, so the most striking stage will not last long.

Founded at the beginning of the 20th century, the estate has become, over time, one of the capital’s most important historical and natural corners and has been granted the region’s cultural heritage status. Winding paths, ponds and old buildings coexist here with olive trees, pines, cypresses and lilacs.
